With over 12 years of hands-on experience in clinical and therapeutic nutrition, Prity Islam leads the Dietetics and Nutrition Department at Labaid Cancer Hospital with unwavering dedication, empathy, and professional excellence.
She holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) with a major in Community Nutrition from Northern University Bangladesh (2024), as well as a Master’s (M.Sc., 2011) and Bachelor’s (B.Sc. Honors, 2010) in Food and Nutrition from the University of Dhaka. She earned her certification as a Clinical Dietitian & Nutritionist from BIRDEM in 2017.
As a seasoned expert in oncology nutrition, Prity is passionately committed to supporting cancer patients at every stage of treatment — including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, and post-surgical recovery. She excels in clinical diet planning and provides advanced nutrition counseling, not only for patients but also for caregivers through family nutritional education. Her personalized dietary interventions aim to reduce treatment side effects, support immunity, prevent malnutrition, and promote healing. Her cancer-specific expertise includes formulating neutropenic diets, post-operative recovery diets, and nutritional plans for managing anemia, diarrhea, constipation, cachexia, mucositis, appetite loss, and other cancer-related complications.
Her approach to dietetics is holistic and patient-centered, taking into account each patient's medical needs, treatment goals, psychological wellbeing, and cultural food preferences. She believes in delivering personalized, evidence-based nutrition care to enhance clinical outcomes and maximize patient satisfaction.
Beyond oncology, her clinical expertise covers a wide range of conditions, including diabetes, kidney disease, cardiovascular disorders, gastrointestinal issues, and immune-compromised states. She is proficient in managing specialized diets such as enteral feeding (NG, PEG), diabetic diets, renal diets, low-fat diets, clear/full liquid diets, ketogenic, DASH, low-residue, low-purine, gluten-free, and diets tailored for pregnancy, lactation, geriatrics, pediatrics, and weight management, among others.
To remain at the forefront of her profession, Prity has participated in numerous national and international seminars and webinars on topics such as renal nutrition, burn recovery nutrition, and evidence-based diabetes care. She currently serves as the Vice President of Pushtibid Foundation and is a life member of the Association of Nutritionists and Dietitians for Social Service (ANDSS) — reflecting her active engagement in both professional and social health initiatives. Her background also includes training in interpersonal communication, facilitation skills, and gender and diversity, all of which enhance her ability to provide compassionate, team-based care.
In addition to one-on-one clinical counseling, Prity has also designed institutional menu plans for hospitals, hostels, and student residences — ensuring that group meals are balanced, budget-conscious, and nutritionally adequate.
Her steadfast commitment to scientific integrity, patient empowerment, and integrated healthcare has helped position the Dietetics & Nutrition Department at Labaid Cancer Hospital as a true center of excellence — where food becomes medicine, and nutrition becomes healing.
In recognition of her outstanding contribution to the healthcare sector, Prity Islam was honored with the ’71 Media Iconic Awards 2025 for her Special Contribution to the Field of Medical Sector. The award was presented on 25 July 2025 at Sky City Hotel, Dhaka, by 71 Media Visionn
